Jodhpur<\/strong>: A historic moment was witnessed at the Rajasthan High Court on Monday when a husband-and-wife judge duo sat together on the same Division Bench and conducted court proceedings.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Justice Pushpendra Singh Bhati and Justice Nupur Bhati jointly heard cases at the Jodhpur principal seat of the High Court, creating what legal experts believe could be the first such instance in the history of the Indian judiciary.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The historic bench was constituted under the new roster arrangement of the Rajasthan High Court.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Around 45 cases were listed before the bench on Monday.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The development generated considerable excitement within the legal fraternity, with several senior advocates describing it as a \u201cproud and inspiring moment\u201d for the judiciary.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Justice Pushpendra Singh Bhati is among the senior-most judges of the Rajasthan High Court and is widely known for his judgments in constitutional, administrative, service, and public interest matters.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

After enrolling as an advocate in 1992, he practiced extensively before the High Court and was later appointed as a judge in 2016. He completed his higher education at Jai Narain Vyas University and earned a PhD on the subject of \u201cPromotion & Seniority in Public Employment.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Justice Nupur Bhati began her legal career in 2003 and practiced in constitutional writs, public interest litigation, education, mining, service, and election-related matters. She also practiced before the Supreme Court of India between 2016 and 2018 before being elevated as a judge of the Rajasthan High Court on January 16, 2023.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

She is also recognized for her work related to women\u2019s safety, child rights, and social awareness, and was appointed as a brand ambassador for the Beti Bachao Beti Padhao campaign.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Both judges studied at Jai Narain Vyas University and are PhD holders.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Legal experts believe the event represents not only a rare judicial milestone but also reflects professionalism, institutional trust, and the growing representation of women in the Indian judiciary.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
