New Delhi<\/strong>: The Supreme Court Collegium has recommended the appointment of five new judges to the Supreme Court of India.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The recommendations were made during Collegium meetings held on 22 May and 27 May 2026.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The five names recommended for appointment as Supreme Court judges are:<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Justice Sheel Nagu
Justice Shree Chandrashekhar
Justice Sanjeev Sachdeva
Justice Arun Palli
Advocate V. Mohana<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Among these recommendations, the selection of senior advocate V. Mohana directly as a Supreme Court judge is being seen as especially significant because appointments from the Bar directly to the Supreme Court are relatively rare and attract considerable attention in legal circles.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Legal experts believe that appointing five judges together could help speed up the disposal of pending cases in the Supreme Court. The experience brought by judges from different High Courts is also expected to strengthen the functioning of the top court.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Collegium has also recommended the appointment of Meenakshi M. Rai as the next Chief Justice of the Patna High Court. She is currently serving in the Sikkim High Court.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

This appointment will take effect after the retirement of the current Chief Justice of the Patna High Court on 4 June 2026. The move is being viewed as an important administrative change within the judiciary.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

These recommendations are not final yet. The proposals will now go to the Central Government for approval. After the Centre\u2019s clearance and the President\u2019s approval, official appointment notifications will be issued.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The news has also revived discussions regarding the Rajasthan High Court, where a regular Chief Justice has still not been appointed. There is speculation that after the summer vacation, the Supreme Court Collegium may consider making a permanent appointment.
