{"id":9646,"date":"2026-09-09T09:14:55","date_gmt":"2026-09-09T09:14:55","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/lawsandlegals.com\/english\/?p=9646"},"modified":"2026-09-09T09:14:57","modified_gmt":"2026-09-09T09:14:57","slug":"rajasthan-hc-rejects-person-based-name-for-revenue-village-sends-back-for-review","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/lawsandlegals.com\/english\/rajasthan-hc-rejects-person-based-name-for-revenue-village-sends-back-for-review\/","title":{"rendered":"Rajasthan HC Rejects Person-Based Name for Revenue Village, Sends Back for Review"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>Jodhpur:<\/strong> The Rajasthan High Court has partly allowed appeals filed by Dala Ram and Rana Ram challenging the names of two newly created revenue villages in Jodhpur\u2019s Deriya area-\u201cRewat Singh Nagar\u201d and \u201cDevji Nagar Deriya\u201d.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">A Division Bench of Justice Dr. Pushpendra Singh Bhati and Justice Praveer Bhatnagar held that the names must be reconsidered under the government policies applicable when each village was notified.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">However, the Court preserved the creation, boundaries and administrative status of both villages.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h4 class=\"wp-block-heading\">\u2018Rewat Singh Nagar\u2019 Name Found Contrary to 2009 Policy<\/h4>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The Bench found that \u201cRewat Singh Nagar\u201d, notified on November 28, 2024, was governed by the 2009 policy, which prohibited person-specific names for revenue villages. As the name was based on Shri Rewat Singh, it cannot be retained under that policy.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h4 class=\"wp-block-heading\">\u2018Devji Nagar Deriya\u2019 to Be Examined Under Amended Policy<\/h4>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cDevji Nagar Deriya\u201d, notified on March 26, 2025, will instead be examined under the amended policy. The Collector must determine whether the name reflects genuine local usage or sentiment and whether the prescribed procedure was followed.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The Court also rejected the plea of res judicata, observing that the appeals had been filed before the related writ petitions were subsequently dismissed.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The District Collector, Jodhpur has been directed to examine the relevant records and give all affected parties an opportunity to be heard.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The Collector must pass a reasoned decision within eight weeks.
