Jaipur:<\/strong> In an unusual late-night development, the Rajasthan High Court witnessed proceedings continuing till 11 PM on Sunday as Dr. Justice Nupur Bhati took up an urgent matter concerning local body elections.<\/p>\n\n\n\n Justice Bhati\u2019s single bench began hearing the matter after 10 PM and continued proceedings till around 11 PM. The order was subsequently pronounced at around midnight, after hearing arguments from both sides.<\/p>\n\n\n\n This is possibly the first such instance in the country\u2019s judicial history where a woman judge has sat in a High Court and heard a matter until such a late hour.<\/p>\n\n\n\n Before Dr. Justice Nupur Bhati, Justice Kanta Bhatnagar reportedly held proceedings until around 10 PM, which was considered a rare instance of late-night court proceedings.<\/p>\n\n\n\n The case arose amid a rush of petitions filed on Sunday in connection with local body elections scheduled for Monday.<\/p>\n\n\n\n More than half a dozen petitions were moved before the High Court seeking urgent relief, as elections for posts including chairpersons and heads of local bodies were scheduled at several places.<\/p>\n\n\n\n Considering the urgency of the matters, single benches were constituted on Sunday on the directions of Rajasthan High Court Chief Justice Dr. Justice Sanjay Kumar Agrawal.<\/p>\n\n\n\n A single bench headed by Justice Kuldeep Mathur was constituted first, followed by a single bench headed by Justice Sunil Beniwal, which took up the matters.<\/p>\n\n\n\n Later in the evening, petitions were filed on behalf of around nine councillors from Hanumangarh seeking police protection.<\/p>\n\n\n\n The filing of multiple petitions through counsel took some time, following which, considering the urgency of the matter, a single bench headed by Dr. Justice Nupur Bhati was constituted at around 10 PM on the Chief Justice\u2019s directions.<\/p>\n\n\n\n The bench commenced hearing after 10 PM and continued hearing until 11 PM as lawyers for the petitioners and the State advanced their respective submissions.<\/p>\n\n\n\n After considering the submissions, Justice Bhati passed an order at around midnight, granting interim relief to the petitioning councillors by restraining any coercive action against them.<\/p>\n\n\n\n The late-night proceedings have drawn attention because of the unusual timing of the High Court hearing.<\/p>\n\n\n\n According to the information available, it is possibly the first such instance in the country involving a woman High Court judge conducting proceedings at such a late hour.<\/p>\n\n\n\n Justice Nupur Bhati\u2019s late-night sitting also recalls an earlier instance involving Justice Kanta Bhatnagar, who had reportedly conducted proceedings in the High Court until around 10 PM.<\/p>\n\n\n\n <\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":" Rajasthan HC\u2019s Extraordinary Sunday Hearing; Dr. Justice Nupur Bhati Hold Hearing Till 11 PM in Urgent Election Matter and passes order till midnight.
