Jaipur:<\/strong> The Rajasthan High Court continued its urgent hearings even on a holiday on Monday, granting relief to Anil Mittal, a candidate for the post of Chairperson of the Kekri Municipality, shortly before the scheduled election.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Justice Anoop Kumar Dhand\u2019s single bench was specially constituted to hear the urgent matter after a complaint was lodged against Mittal late Sunday night, just hours before the election.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The High Court stayed coercive action against Mittal, after his counsel approached the court in the early hours of Monday, apprehending arrest and other punitive action on the basis of the complaint.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Complaint Lodged at 11 PM, Petition Filed at 3 AM<\/h4>\n\n\n\n

The matter arose after a complaint was lodged against Mittal at around 11 PM on Sunday, just hours before the municipal chairperson election scheduled for Monday.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The complaint alleged that money had been offered to influence the election process.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Apprehending possible coercive action and arrest, a petition was filed online on Mittal\u2019s behalf by advocate Praveen Jain at around 3 AM.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Considering the urgency, the Registry obtained permission from the Chief Justice at around 8 AM, following which a special single bench was constituted.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Justice Anoop Kumar Dhand thereafter heard the matter at around 10 AM.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Counsel Submitted Complaint Could Affect Election<\/h4>\n\n\n\n

Senior Advocate Major R.P. Singh, appearing for Mittal, submitted that the complaint and any action arising from it could directly affect the municipal chairperson election scheduled for the same day.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

After hearing the submissions, the High Court granted interim relief to Mittal and directed that no coercive action be taken against him.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Congress-BJP Contest for Kekri Chairperson Post<\/h4>\n\n\n\n

The election for the Kekri Municipal Chairperson was scheduled for September 21. Following withdrawal of nominations, the contest was between Congress candidate Anil Mittal and BJP candidate Vineet Choradiya.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
