HC Flags Jodhpur’s Green Cover Concern; Adv. Muktesh Maheshwari Undertake Plantation of 100 Trees with Petitioner

100-Tree Plantation Pledge Emerges from Court Proceedings; Petitioner, Counsel Take a Step Towards “Green & Clean Jodhpur”

Jodhpur: The Rajasthan High Court has expressed concern over the need to preserve greenery and maintain environmental balance in Jodhpur, following which an advocate and the petitioner have undertaken to plant 100 trees as an initiative to make the city “green and clean.”

The development came during the hearing of a PIL concerning the protection of grazing land (gochar land) near Khokhariya in Jodhpur, where a sewage treatment plant (STP) has been proposed.

The matter was heard by a Division Bench of Justice Vinit Kumar Mathur and Justice Sandeep Shah on September 23.

During the hearing, counsel for the State, Sajjan Singh Rathore, AAG, sought additional time to complete his instructions. The Court allowed the request and listed the matter for September 29.

Meanwhile, counsel for the petitioner, Muktesh Maheshwari, made an environmental initiative before the Court on instructions and with the consent of the petitioner.

He submitted that if the State Administration provides an appropriate place for plantation, both the petitioner and his counsel would plant 50 trees each, taking the total plantation commitment to 100 trees as an initiative to make Jodhpur green and clean.

The counsel and petitioner further undertook to submit photographs of the plantation along with a report before the Court on the next date of hearing.

Following the submissions, the High Court directed the counsel appearing for the respondents to provide an appropriate place for the plantation to the petitioner’s counsel.

The order records the plantation initiative in the context of the ongoing PIL concerning the proposed STP and the protection of gochar land.

The matter will now be taken up on September 29, 2026.
