New Delhi: Jaipur’s issue of allegedly unauthorized coaching institutes operating on Gopalpura Main Road has now reached the Supreme Court.
A petition was filed by the 10-B Scheme Vikas Samiti, alleging that several coaching institutes are operating on Gopalpura Main Road in violation of Jaipur’s Master Plan and designated land-use regulations.
The petition claims that these institutes have led to severe traffic congestion, parking problems, overcrowding, and inconvenience for local residents.
Appearing for the petitioner, senior advocate R.D. Rastogi argued that the coaching centres are functioning in areas where such commercial activities are not permitted under the approved land-use plan.
During the hearing, the petitioner also questioned why the Rajasthan government has not shifted these coaching institutes to the dedicated Coaching Hub developed at a cost of around ₹350 crore.
The petition argued that the facility was specifically built for coaching activities, but instead of being used for its intended purpose, it is reportedly being allocated for other uses.
The petition further challenged attempts to regularize coaching institutes that are allegedly operating in violation of the Master Plan and land-use rules.
Taking note of the arguments, the Supreme Court sought a response from the Jaipur Development Authority (JDA) and issued a notice.
The Court also questioned why a dedicated coaching hub, built with substantial public funds, could be used for purposes other than those for which it was created.
The petition requests the Court to direct the government to shift the allegedly unauthorized coaching institutes from Gopalpura Main Road to the dedicated Coaching Hub.
According to the petitioner, this would ensure compliance with the city’s Master Plan and land-use policies while reducing traffic, parking issues, congestion, and other civic problems faced by residents in the area.
