Rajasthan HC Directs SOG to Take Strict Action Against Those Responsible; Detailed Investigation Report Due on September 15
Jodhpur: The Rajasthan High Court has taken a strong stand over the alleged poor condition and serious construction defects in the new High Court building, directing the investigating authorities to take prompt legal action against those responsible.
The Division Bench expressed serious displeasure over the slow progress of the investigation into an FIR registered in 2023. The Court directed the Director General of the Special Operations Group (SOG) to ensure swift and strict action against the officials and other persons found responsible for the alleged irregularities concerning the court building.
The Court has also directed the authorities to submit a detailed progress report on the investigation on September 15.
No Pre-Arrest Protection From Courts Across Rajasthan
In a significant direction, the High Court ordered that no court in Rajasthan shall grant pre-arrest protection to officials or other persons allegedly responsible in the matter against possible police action.
The Court clarified that any order granting such relief or protection can be passed only by a Division Bench of the Rajasthan High Court or the Supreme Court.
The Bench also warned that any violation of this direction would be viewed seriously.
2023 FIR, Court Questions Slow Pace of Investigation
The case relates to alleged serious construction defects and the poor condition of the new High Court building, for which an FIR was registered in 2023.
The High Court expressed concern over the pace of the investigation and made it clear that the matter cannot remain confined to paperwork. The authorities are now required to demonstrate what concrete steps have been taken to identify and proceed against those responsible.
