Jaipur: The Rajasthan High Court has given the state government three weeks to appoint a permanent Chairman of the Rajasthan Civil Services Appellate Tribunal (RAT).
A division bench of Justice Inderjeet Singh and Justice Sandeep Taneja passed the direction while hearing a PIL filed by 11 High Court advocates over the long vacancy in the Chairman’s post.
The Court made it clear that if the government fails to complete the appointment within three weeks, the Secretary of the Department of Personnel (DoP) will have to appear personally before the Court and explain the delay.
Post Vacant Since March
The petitioners told the Court that RAT has been without a regular Chairman since March 2026. They also pointed out vacancies in other posts, which they said were affecting the Tribunal’s functioning and delaying service-related cases.
Prakash Chandra Sharma is currently holding acting charge of Chairman.
The petitioners submitted that RAT plays an important role in resolving service disputes involving government employees and officers. With key posts lying vacant, a large number of cases are awaiting effective hearing and disposal.
Government Gets Three Weeks
The High Court has directed the government to complete the appointment process within three weeks.
The matter will then be heard again, with the government expected to report on compliance.
The bench has specifically warned that failure to comply could lead to the personal appearance of the DoP Secretary before the Court.
